Who We Are

Restoring Hope, One Life at a Time

HopeStreets Uganda is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering street-connected children across Uganda. We believe every child β€” regardless of background β€” deserves safety, education, and belonging.

Founded in 2013, we work directly with children in Kampala and surrounding districts, offering not just relief β€” but lasting restoration through holistic, community-driven programs.

❀️

Dignity First

Every child is treated with unconditional respect and love.

🀝

Community

We work with families and communities, not around them.

πŸ“š

Education

Learning is the cornerstone of every child's future.

🌱

Restoration

We focus on long-term healing, not short-term fixes.

The Challenge

Understanding the Crisis

Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world β€” yet thousands of children remain on the streets, invisible to systems designed to protect them.

10,000+

Street-Connected Children

An estimated 10,000+ children live or work on the streets of Kampala alone, facing exploitation, violence, and deprivation every day.

62%

Lack Formal Education

Over 6 in 10 street-connected children have never attended school or have dropped out, cutting off any clear path out of poverty.

3 in 5

Without Safe Shelter

Most street-connected children sleep in dangerous conditions β€” markets, roadsides, and abandoned buildings β€” with no adult protection.

What We Do

Our Programs

Our work is holistic β€” meeting children where they are and walking with them toward a brighter, safer future.

🏠

Safe Shelter

Transitional safe houses and emergency shelter with care workers available around the clock β€” a safe place to rest and recover.

πŸ“–

Education & Learning

Non-formal and formal education pathways, bridging classes, and school re-integration support so every child can access learning.

🧠

Psychosocial Support

Trauma-informed counselling, art therapy, and peer support circles to help children heal and build lasting resilience.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§

Family Reintegration

Tracing, mediation, and follow-up support to safely reconnect children with their families and communities.

πŸ’Ό

Vocational Skills

Practical skills training for older youth β€” tailoring, carpentry, catering, and digital literacy β€” creating real livelihood pathways.

βš•οΈ

Health & Nutrition

Regular medical check-ups, nutritious meals, hygiene kits, and clinic partnerships to keep every child healthy and strong.

Stories of Change

Voices from Our Community

Behind every statistic is a human story. Here are a few of the lives changed through your support.

When I came to HopeStreets, I had nothing β€” no shoes, no books, no family nearby. Today I am in Senior Two and I want to become a nurse. They gave me more than a place to sleep; they gave me a future.

Aisha, 14
Program Beneficiary β€” Kampala

As a community volunteer, I see this work up close. They don't just hand out food β€” they sit with the children, listen to them, and treat them as human beings. That makes all the difference.

J
James Opio
Community Volunteer β€” Kawempe

My son was on the streets for two years and I had lost hope. HopeStreets found him, cared for him, and brought him home. He now learns tailoring and helps me in the market. I thank God for this work.
